Sun Baked Snow Cave is a collaborative album between Japanese experimental doom band Boris and Japanese noise musician Merzbow. The album consists of a single track that clocks in at over an hour in length. The album artwork was done by Sunn O))) member and regular Hydra Head designer Stephen O'Malley. [9] [10]

The album's flaws are evident in the middle - the two tracks which feature collaboration with Merzbow are disappointing to say the least. O))) Bow 1 and 2 sees the Japanese musician layer swirling electronic sounds and incredibly disjointed and atonal piano lines which interrupt and wreck the incredibly desolate atmosphere the band has been working towards for the past twenty-something minutes.

Experimental noise musician Merzbow mixed tracks 3 and 4. The original version included a prescription for Ozzy Osbourne reproduced in the artwork. The later versions removed it. "F.W.T.B.T." is an interpretation of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica.The song does not follow much of what the original song is because Sunn O)))'s intention of the track was to rewrite the song for themselves.

The biggest drawback with this album is the middle two collab tracks. I love Sunn O))), and I love Merzbow, but fuck if these works are not irritating as fuck. The second part, namely "O)))Bow 2" is probably a little more tolerable, but in general, these two tracks are a massive detraction from the excellence of the album.

Sunn o)))'s cover however bears little resemblance to its origins. The track bursts open with a far more fuzzed up and muddier sounding guitar, in my opinion this variation is welcomed after to the albums first two tracks as it does not take from the overall aesthetic of the album, unlike that of the Merzbow assisted tracks..
